Your administrator first met Ken Harmount in the cemetery in the late 1990s. Soon afterward, Santa Clara Mission Cemetery and CCW were separately planning to create web sites.  Someone in my office mentioned that Ken was a webmaster and since 2000 Ken has created, hosted and maintained the web sites for our cemetery and CCW. He is now also assisting the production of this newsletter

Q: Tell us a little about yourself Ken.

I was born in Palo Alto and spent the first 18 years of my life in Saratoga, Ca.  My father worked as an engineer for NASA then Lockheed and my mother was a teacher.   I have one brother who now lives in Santa Cruz and works as a firefighter for San Jose Fire Department.

After high school I moved to San Luis Obispo to attend Cuesta College.  I enjoyed living there and spent a lot of time pursuing my favorite sport, surfing.  After a few years I decided to drop out of school and work as an Emergency Medical Technician for San Luis Ambulance.  I also worked as a beach lifeguard and taught a junior lifeguard program.  After a couple years of working, I decided to return to school and complete my degree.

I moved to Chico and worked on a recreation degree with a focus on resort management.  During this time I broke my neck snowboarding and was flown out to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where they specialize in spinal cord injuries.  I spent 6 months in the hospital and was classified as a quadriplegic.

I decided to stay in Santa Clara and adapt to life paralyzed.  It was an extreme change in life both physically and mentally.    From the accident until now, I have managed to finish my degree and completed a Teachers Credential program.  I now work for myself doing web design.
